What are secondary resources?

Secondary resources are works that interpret and analyze a topic or time period and are often based on primary resources.

Examples include scholarly or popular books and articles, reference books, and textbooks. For example, a scholarly journal article about the battle of Iwo Jima is a secondary resource. Someone wrote the article after the events of the battle took place. The article may also include some primary sources, such as direct quotes, diaries, and letters from people who lived and participated during the battle or excerpts from historical documents.
